See Alaska’s largest gingerbread village. Hotel Captain Cook pastry chef Joe Hickel meticulously constructs a sweet winter wonderland using more than 550 pounds of sugar, 200 pounds of chocolate. Construction typically begins in late November. Joe puts in 100 hours of work to complete the village is on display in the lobby of the Hotel Captain Cook.
Holiday Lights in the Garden

Recurring weekly on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, the Alaska Botanical Garden hosts their first ever Holiday Lights in the Garden. Hot cocoa, cider, live music, ice formations, luminarias, holiday lights, bonfires. November 29-December 29 and New Year’s Eve. Guided stargazing every Thursday. Members $5, Non-members $7. Kids 4 and under free.
Alaska Wildlife Holiday Event

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is hosting a fun-filled holiday event for anyone who has ever wanted to take their photo with a reindeer! Visitors will also meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy tasty holiday treats, and create an ornament for your own Christmas tree. For one day only, everything in the Be Wild Gift Shop will be 5 percent off! Festivities will occur between 10 am to 4 pm in Bison Hall. Photo opportunities with reindeer, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be from 11 am to 2 pm.

The Eagle River Nature Center invites you to our annual celebration of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Bring your own lantern or borrow one of ours. Dress for being outdoors, and follow the lantern-lit path along the Rodak Trail to the big bonfire anytime between 6 and 8 p.m.
