Teeth whitening has increased in popularity in recent years as newer generations of adults have placed greater emphasis on their physical appearance.
Over-the-counter teeth whitening products do work as promised, however, because the whitening agents in these products are much less powerful than what a dentist can prescribe to you, it takes longer to achieve that bright white smile. But the other problem with over-the-counter whiteners, is that each time you eat, you undo the progress with staining foods.
Here are the top 3 types of teeth whitening procedures and products that you can only get from a dentist, including here at Alaska Smiles…
1. Custom Trays – Perhaps the most common professional teeth whitening procedure, this involves creating a custom tray designed to fit your upper and lower teeth perfectly so that whitening gel remains in place and does not leak out. We dispense a more powerful gel than what you can buy at a store. You apply it at home and leave it in place for about 4 hours at a time over a one to two week span. The advantage here is that once you run out of whitening gel, you can still use the custom tray with over-the-counter gels, it will just take longer for those gels to work. Most dentists charge around $300.00 to create a custom tray.
2. Opalescence Go – By the far the most affordable solution, Opalescence Go is a kit that contains a “one size fits all” set of trays, with the Opalescence whitening gel. There is no actual procedure dentists do here. We simply offer a brief examination of your mouth, sell you the kit, and answer questions on how to use it. Opalescence Go offers a whiter smile in just 5–10 days with wear times ranging from 15–60 minutes per day. You can’t buy this at a store because the gel is more powerful than what you can get over-the-counter. Most dental offices charge about $80.00 for a set of 10 trays and gels.
3. Philips Zoom – The most state-of-the-art teeth whitening system available today, Philips Zoom uses a blue LED light along with a special light-activated whitening gel to create bright white teeth in a single sitting. We place the whitening gel on your teeth, then attach an LED light piece to your mouth. The light and gel takes about 60 minutes to complete, though the entire visit may be more like 90 minutes from the time you walk in, and walk out. Most dental offices charge about $1,000.00 to do this, but it’s becoming more popular because there is nothing you need to do at home,
We offer all three of these whitening systems.
Your teeth will remain bright white anywhere from 1 month to 18 months, depending on what foods you eat, and how diligent you are at brushing your teeth. If you can stay away from red wine, coffee, tea, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, Popsicles, beets, berries, and colored sodas, you’ll get a lot more smileage out of your pearly white investment.
