A smile is one of the most basic things that shows off our personality and it is also the “curve that makes everything right”. No wonder there are many types of cosmetic procedures within the cosmetic dentistry services. But cosmetic dentistry is not just a matter of beauty.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is a term generally used to describe dental work with the intention of improving one’s general appearance. Its primary focus is not necessarily on the function of eating and chewing, but it’s psychological benefits are enormous. The appearance of our teeth, gums and/or bite can completely change a person’s attitude and self-confidence. This is why cosmetic dentistry makeover primarily focuses on improvement in dental aesthetics in color, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.

Stains, discoloration, chips, are popular fixes because they’re common and easy to perform. Implants and realignments are also common but require more time and expense. Yet, even the most smallest, basic cosmetic dental treatments can have a major impact on one’s confidence.

But cosmetic dentistry can yield even greater health benefits.

Misaligned and/or broken teeth can cause bits of food to become stuck, often times deep inside the gums. If not immediately removed by flossing and brushing, it can harbor bacteria that will break down enamel and cause tooth decay and gum disease. An experienced cosmetic dentist can realign and repair teeth to minimize impacted food particles.

Types of cosmetic dentistry

Teeth Whitening is the simplest and most common cosmetic dental procedure. We offer three types of whitening options, Opalesence Go is our most affordable, using standard sized trays and whitening gels. Meanwhile, our custom fitted trays with whitening gels is our most popular. We also offer Philips Zoom, the most advanced teeth whitening technology in use today. Dental Veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored porcelain or resin that cover the front of the teeth. They’re used for one or more discolored teeth. We remove about a half-millimeter of enamel from surface, then bond the veneer to the front.

Dental Bonding uses a tooth-colored resin which is applied to the tooth and hardened with an ultraviolet light. We then trim, shape, and polish it to look like a real tooth. This is used primarily for decayed, chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth. It can also be used in place of silver fillings. Bonding takes about 30 to 60 minutes.

Dental Crown fits over and replaces the entire decayed or damaged tooth above the gum line, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. They can also be used to cover misshapen or severely discolored teeth. Crowns can be made from metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, resin, or ceramic.

Inlays and Onlays are made from gold, porcelain, or composite materials and fill decayed or damaged teeth. Dental fillings are molded into place during an office visit; however the actual inlays and onlays are created in a dental laboratory and then bonded into place by our staff. Inlays and onlays preserve as much healthy tooth as possible and are an alternative to crowns.

Dental Implants are one of our more popular procedures. We implant a titanium post into the jawbone to serve as an anchor. A porcelain tooth custom shaped to blend in with the rest of your mouth is then fixed to the post and becomes permanent. It’s a procedure that will take several months for your jaw and mouth to fully grow into the implant, but once finished the new tooth will be as strong as real teeth and can chew any kind of food.
